SCOPEM
The Scientific Center for Optical and Electron Microscopy (ScopeM) is a core scientific facility of ETH Zürich that provides resources, services and education in optical and electron microscopy, as well as sample preparation from a wide range of materials, from biological materials to rocks, polymers and metals. The facility is managed by Dr. Nicolas Blanc, and electron microscopy is coordinated by both Dr. Karsten Kunze and Dr. Marc Willinger.
Electron microscopy
The ScopeM facility is equipped with 8 SEMs, 7 TEMs and 3 FIB/SEM machines, as well as an Atom Probe. The Structural Geology and Tectonics group extensively uses the analytical SEMs, TEMs and SEM/FIBs, including:
- ThermoFischer (FEI) Quanta 200 FEG SEM equipped with EDAX EDS/EBSD system
- ThermoFischer (FEI) Magellan 400 FEG SEM equipped with EDAX EDS/EBSD system and double EDS detector
- JEOL JSM7100 equipped with EDS and WDS detectors;
- ThermoFischer TECNAI F30 300 kV TEM, equipped with EDS, EELS and Lorentz detectors
- Zeiss NVision Ga-FIB/SEM machine equipped with EDAX EDS and EBSD
- Tescan Plasma FIB/SEM machine equipped with EDAX EDS and EBSD (including 3D possibilities with both techniques);
