Alissa Kotowski (UT Austin)

Alissa at Mount St. HelensAlissa is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at Austin’s Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) working with Whitney Behr. Alissa completed her B.S. in Geological Sciences at Boston College in 2014, where she studied earthquake migration patterns along strike-slip faults. Her Ph.D. research combines structural geology, microstructural analysis, and metamorphic petrology to understand the rheological evolution of ancient subduction shear zones. Alissa is interested in plate boundary deformation over a range of temporal scales, from steady-state to co-seismic failure. She is investigating potential signatures of Episodic Tremor and Slow Slip in the rock record using eclogite-bearing shear zones on Syros Island, Greece.
